WE HEART LOCAL
This year hasn’t been easy for anyone. But it was particularly tough on small & local businesses. It breaks our hearts to see locally owned stores and restaurants permanently shut their doors in such large numbers, including our beloved Zaz Bistro who we are going to miss dearly. Thank you again 2020, for this one too, the year that keeps on giving.
In this all exhausting fight against the novel pandemic, we did extraordinarily well, as a community and as a nation. And now let’s do our bit for the local business owners who need our love & support more than ever. After all, through thick and thin, these businesses have always been there for us. Remember when your date cancelled at the last minute? It was the local bistro that came to rescue your Friday night plans and made you feel loved with a complimentary shot of tequila. Or the time when you dropped your resume at every big corporation but it was your friendly neighborhood café that actually called you back with your first job. And of course your next door convenience store that has been always there for your last minute recipes, or pretty much every small or big emergency.
They always remember your birthdays, your job interviews and the very specific delivery instructions. And believe us, it’s not because they try too hard or because the mission statement of their company requires them to give you a ten percent discount on your birthdays, but because they genuinely care about these little stuff, they truly love bringing you joy. It is more likely that you will find the owners of these small businesses or perhaps your favorite homeboy or homegirl at the store counters or behind the kitchens. And that’s what makes them even more special. When you buy local your money is kept in the community. The local businesses believe in camaraderie and giving back to the community more than anyone. They share the same values, they support the same causes as we do. And more importantly they are driven by passion and love for what they do. There is a reason why you won’t see these local businesses spending millions on patenting a recipe or keeping their secret ingredient in a highly secured locker, because the secret ingredient to their recipe is love. Always, has been. And you cannot imitate real love. Right?
This Canada Day, as we celebrate our great nation, let’s also celebrate all small businesses who serve our communities, their spirit undeterred by a global pandemic. Here are some of our darling local businesses from the beautiful village of Bayfield that you must visit on your next trip
